Welcome to Reading Recovery!
Welcome to the Reading Recovery web-site. Wow, we have great readers at Limestone-Walters School. They are using meaning, structure, and visual clues to help problem solve unknown words in the context of a story. It is so exciting to see their growth and improvement.
Reading Recovery is an individual intervention program designed for first grade students. Lessons are carefully planned to meet the specific needs of a particular student. During these individual lessons, a child has the opportunity to read and write daily. It typically is a 12 to 20 week program that allows students to become successful, independent readers and writers.
Reading aloud to your child is always a good idea. It promotes enjoyment in reading, strengthens comprehension, builds vocabulary, and provides a role model. Your child's listening comprehension is higher than his or her independent reading level.
Most importantly, reading is a SKILL, and it improves with practice, just like any other skill. Research shows that students who spend time reading daily are more likely to become good readers.
